PRIVACY POLICY FOR THEPIT.ONLINE

1. THE BASELINE (WE CHOOSE TRANSPARENCY)

We aren’t a data-mining conglomerate, and we aren't selling your profile to advertising networks. ThePit.online is a community-driven, independent, open-source platform. However, running a modern social network requires processing basic technical information. This policy cuts through the corporate garbage to tell you exactly what data we log, how it’s handled, and where the boundaries are.

2. WHAT DATA WE COLLECT & WHY

Because this site operates on the Open Source Social Network (OSSN) architecture, data collection is limited to what is functionally required to keep your account online and your feed working:

  • Account Credentials: When you sign up, we collect your email address, username, password (which is fully encrypted and salted in our database), and basic profile details like your name or scene pseudonym.

  • User-Generated Content: We host and store the text, photos, videos, poll selections, and comments you openly publish to the wall, groups, or event pages so they can render properly for the community.

  • Technical Logs: For network optimization and security (blocking bot nets, spam scripts, and malicious intrusions), our server logs standard technical data. This includes your IP address, browser type, and time stamps.

  • Cookies & Cache: The site utilizes functional cookies to keep you logged in across sessions and browser tab refreshes, as well as to optimize page load speeds through our system cache.

3. THE PEER-TO-PEER DATA BOUNDARY (CRITICAL HIPAA NOTICE)

  • Public Domain by Default: Let’s be completely real: This is a public social space, not a secure medical database. ThePit.online is a peer-to-peer network meant for underground culture, solidarity, and communication.

  • Zero HIPAA Protections: We are NOT a healthcare provider, covered entity, or business associate under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

  • Your Responsibility: If you choose to discuss personal struggles, health journeys, or mental wellness within the feed, groups, or comments, you must understand that this data is not encrypted or protected under medical privacy laws. Do not upload confidential medical records, Protected Health Information (PHI), or sensitive documentation. Anything you share is processed at your own absolute risk.

4. HOW YOUR DATA IS STORED & PROTECTED

  • Encryption: Your passwords and critical database connections are thoroughly hashed and encrypted using standard backend security protocols.

  • No Third-Party Brokers: We do not trade, lease, sell, or distribute your personal profile information or contact data to commercial advertisers or data brokers.

  • Server Infrastructure: Our databases reside on secure server infrastructure configured strictly to support independent web hosting.

5. DATA CONTROL & DELETION

You own your presence in the pit. Because this is your space, you retain the following rights over your data:

  • Surgical Deletion: You can delete your own wall posts, comments, uploaded photos, or videos at any time through the front-end user interface.

  • Account Nuke: If you wish to leave the platform permanently, you can delete your profile via your Account Settings. This action purges your account architecture from our active user directories.

  • System Cache: Note that due to OSSN's aggressive background compilation and system caching, it may take a short window for deleted assets to completely drop out of server-side background logs after you clear your path.

6. COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAW

While we believe in absolute independence and subculture solidarity, we are bound by standard legal frameworks. We will only disclose user data or IP logs to external entities if explicitly ordered to do so by a valid, legally binding subpoena, warrant, or court order issued by a recognized jurisdiction.

7. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

Just like the scene, the digital landscape changes. We reserve the right to tweak this Privacy Policy to adapt to server upgrades or open-source software changes. Continued use of the platform after updates indicates your acknowledgment of our current privacy practices.
